A study spanning 9 British Columbia communities, with findings based on surveys completed by street youth. Findings are focused on family relationships, school & work, physical and sexual health, as well as violence. The research provides a perspective of regular factors in the life of marginalized BC youth, and can be of assistance in guiding the development of comprehensive program and policy development suited towards current needs.

The result of research aiming to broaden the discussion of the causes of retail decline along Hastings Street of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. The study is a long-term observation of changes in the retail storefront use along Hastings Street spanning a quarter of a century from 1976 to 2001. These changes are considered with respect to overall trends in the Lower Mainland, with the findings being compared to demographics of the surrounding community. A summary of the issues and possible opportunities for remedy are also explored.

This resource includes the preliminary information gathered prior to development of the First Report Card on Homelessness in Ottawa, 2004, by the Alliance to End Homelessness in Ottawa. Part 1, a Review of the Literature was undertaken by The Centre for Research in Community Services at the University of Ottawa to provide a brief overview of the literature on report card methodology, including the history and current status of report cards, the purposes and processes of developing and formulating report cards, the dissemination and translation of report cards, and suggestions for the Ottawa report card on homelessness in light of the findings uncovered in the literature review. Part ll, Indicators and Canadian Report Cards was undertaken by The Social Planning Council Ottawa to look at the various report cards done in Canada, and first isolate the possible indicators that might be used to assess homelessness in a community and then provide an analysis of those Report Cards to create a picture of the range of possibilities the Alliance might consider in its First Report Card.
